Optare's Solo SR enters service with NCT

8 juli 2011

The first five from a £2.5 million order for 24 Optare Solo midibuses placed earlier this year by Nottingham City Transport (NCT) have now entered service on their Go2 Green 11 route to Meadows and Lady Bay.

The remainder will enter service in the Autumn and some may replace double deckers to provide a more frequent service on competitive routes.

The Solo SRs are built to a high specification that includes leather seats. They also feature the Optare Eco Drive dashboard to help drivers save fuel and monitor their driving styles and a full telematics package is fitted.

The six-cylinder Cummins ISBe engine is the chosen power unit for the 9.8 metre Solo SRs. This delivers 150 kW (201 bhp) at 2500 rpm and 750 Nm of torque. It is matched to an Allison 2100 Series automatic transmission with a lock-up torque convertor to contribute to good fuel efficiency.

This year is one of NCT's biggest buying years for a decade, with 56 new buses due to enter service by Christmas. All will be built by Optare, including 32 Scania Omnidekka double-deckers currently being delivered. The result will be a 100% wheelchair accessible fleet operating five years ahead of national requirements.
